Hey, I'm Todd.
I'm a product leader and designer, recovering founder/CEO, advisor, surfer, husband and dad.
I founded, built, and eventually sold Bandsintown, the largest and highest rated concert app on iPhone and Android with nearly 100M users. In addition I created Bandsintown Manager, the tour data platform used by 500K+ musicians, including Justin Bieber and 95% of the Billboard Top 100.I lead major product partnerships and integrations with Facebook, Google, and Ticketmaster.Business Insider named it one of the 100 World’s Greatest Apps, Time Magazine called it one of The Best 50 Apps of 2016, and here it is on The Today Show.Prior to creating Bandsintown I was an early employee and sole designer at The Echo Nest, a music intelligence company acquired by Spotify.I've also had the pleasure of being a product advisor to several awesome entrepreneurs.
Early Career
I graduated from Massachusetts College of Art in Boston with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, and interned with two of the most innovative experience design agencies in the world; The Barbarian Group and Continuum. After that I launched a Flash design agency called Ambient Interactive, which ended up winning numerous macromedia awards. At the time Last.FM was reinventing how we discover music and I began working on a product that would do the same for live music. With a growing interest in recommendation and discovery products, I landed a job as a designer with The Echo Nest, which was spun out of the MIT Media Lab and would go on to be acquired by Spotify and responsible for Discover Weekly.A year into that I was accepted to a startup accelerator, raised additional funding, and began the next phase of my life; connecting live music fans and artists.
Bandsintown
from conception
to 25M users
I started working on Bandsintown in 2006 (w/ zero users), I incorporated the company in 2007, and lead strategy, design, product, and growth until June 2016, when we surpassed 25 million registered users.I acted as CEO and sole designer for 7 years (2006 – 2012), after which the company was acquired and I became VP of Product.I had an amazing team of people working with me, but safe to say I played a role in all things Bandsintown.
Brand Identity
I conceived and designed the Bandsintown logo which remains in place today, and received trademarks on both the word Bandsintown and the rock symbol.
I also created the concert cloud which became synonymous with Bandsintown.
Consumer App & Website
We launched the first version of the consumer website in 2007, followed that up with the release of our iPhone app in 2009, and in 2012 we released the first version of the Android app. Subsequent releases included iPad/Tablet, Apple/Android watch and a Facebook application.
Artist / Manager Platform
The artist platform launched in 2010 as a website plugin and then expanded to MySpace and Facebook. We added our first major artist Lil Wayne that year as adoption grew quickly. Today there are over 500K major artists promoting and managing their tour dates through Bandsintown, including my man Justin Bieber.
API & Partner Integrations
We also released an API that lead to early integrations with Shazam, Soundhound, Spotify, WinAmp, and the labels, and integral for major partnerships I lead with Facebook, Google, and Ticketmaster.
Grateful for early partners like Roberta Maley and Will Mills for taking a big risk when it was just me and my co-founder, and later for Dan Armstrong, Jon Park, Jackie Chang and many more.
Memory Lane
My Life Today
After exiting Bandsintown, I opted for the non-traditional career path and have dedicated the last few years to advising, surfing, and raising my two young boys to be good and empathetic humans. After hours I tinker on tech products, most recently Copaye (an Airbnb for money), and The Chillennials (an NFT collection and aspiring animated series built with my long time friend and executive producer / director of the Rugrats).
